Ethan J. Alvarée

Mathematician, educator, and founder in San Diego.

I am a mathematician and educator in San Diego, and I have been teaching since 2013. At High Bluff Academy I lead technology, curriculum, and instruction, and alongside the school I build Contemplanda and Pacific Crest Institute. Two golden retrievers, Ada and Fibonacci, keep me company while I work.

    A private school in San Diego serving grades 7–12.

    I lead technology, curriculum, and instruction at HBA, and I still teach: since 2018 I have taught 136 sections across 22 courses, from Integrated Math through AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science, linear algebra, and group theory.

  • Pacific Crest Institute

    CEO & co-founder

    A San Diego school built around mentorship and craft.

    I co-founded PCI in April 2026 and serve as CEO. Its Art Institute pairs students with working professionals; every student is invited to contribute a finished page to a published book and is credited by name.

    Interactive courseware for mathematics and the sciences.

    Founded in August 2026. I write and publish Contemplanda's courses: full interactive courseware with graded widgets, mastery practice, and readings designed to stand on their own. The Promenade texts I began in 2013 grew into this catalogue.
